 I am normally not a nylon girl myself. I prefer to go without to be honest. That said; there are some occasions when I feel I could really use a nylon. Whether it is a more formal occasion or just too darn cold outside, I am always tempted to throw a pair on. And I usually do for the most part, but the whole time I'm thinking....do I look totally dated, out of style, etc.
So I did a little research and the only consensus I could come to is that there is no consensus. Some people wear them, some don't. It's all just personal preference really and though the current trend does lean more towards not wearing them, people still do. Especially in conservative work environments and at more formal events. Hell, they still sell them don't they?
But here's my advice. If it is a daytime function wear a nude color - the idea being to be wearing nylons without actually looking like it. Definitely wear them with a closed toe/heeled shoe like a pump - no strappy sandals or slingbacks please. And evening.....well that is a whole other story and it really depends on the event and what you are wearing. But day or night, if it is the least bit warm and you've got legs worth showing, I say go for it.
But if you are looking for some nice nylons, Ann Taylor has quite a few options. |

| Is it really true that if I wear a sling back (closed toe) shoe it is a no-no to wear nylons?? I must be really out of it...I am one who thinks that in Feb. in Wisconsin I need to 'enhance' my almost 40 year old calves as best I can, so I am in the 'FOR NYLONS' camp. But let me know people's thoughts about doing it with sling backs...if not, I must start exfoliating my heels this minute. |

| To be honest, it used to be a major fashion faux pas NOT to wear them with nylons. But with whole "no nylon" craze it seems more and more people go without, especially with strappy sandals and even slingbacks. That said; it is still just really a personal preference and if you feel more comfortable with a nylon on then go for it. Now if it were sandals I would say forget it, but with slingbacks I think you can still pull them off. Just make sure there are no seams showing. |
