 Take Eddie Bauer. They have this Miraclesuit line that promises to make you look 10 pounds lighter in 10 seconds. Does it work? Can't say. I can't seem to get past the cost. The tankinis run about $120 and a one piece - about the same. Ouch! They do offer other options as well, but by the time it's all said and done you're still around $100 bucks with tax and shipping costs. Lands' End has suits too, but they cost about the same. J.Crew has a few one piece suits that are a bit more affordable and they do offer a few slimming swimwear options as well. But again, the minute you want more than a teeny bikini the price goes up.
Make sense I know. The more "extras" you get like a little more lycra or a bit more padding the more a suit should cost. But $100? I mean, I would like to get more than one? Maybe I should just look at is as an investment - like a good pair of shoes. Find one that fits really well, one I feel comfortable in, etc. and buy it. After all a really good one doesn't come along very often.
Sure this all makes sense logically, but for some reason I am still having trouble swallowing it.

| Ok...Today Show had a little ditty on bathing suits this morning and the expert & Katie had the same discussion about the bathing suits being right at the $100 price point! So if you can get a nice suit for less, she thinks you got yourself a deal. Nice work Savvie Stephanie - I think you should get Katie's spot!! |

| There are apparently some new swimsuits from Lands Ends as well as other vendors that resist clorine. They are quite pricey, but are supposed to last longer. Last week's Wall Street Journal had an article on them. |

| I agree that the prices for a good bathing suit can be shocking, but I also have to say I think it's well worth spending the extra to find a good one. Thinking ahead to summer, I had one of this year's new tankini syles saved in my Eddie Bauer shopping cart with intentions of splurging on it to get something nice that I could wear for a couple of years. Meanwhile, though, I found some really nice ones in the Overstock section at Lands End, and actually ended up getting two suits for less than the top alone would have cost at Eddie Bauer. So checking out that section is a great way to get a classy suit (which is more important to me with every passing year!) at a price that's not so painful! My suits arrived this week, and both are great. The fit is true to size, and the quality is just what you'd expect from Lands End. |
