Online or in stores? You'd better check both.
Saturday, May 12, 2007
Martin & Osa - my new favorite store send to a friend Super cute cuffed and cropped jeans for summer
Take the Gap for instance.  Their Tailored Boyfriend pants currently sell for $34.99 online, but in stores they are priced at just $29.99.  And this Linen Pleated Blue-Print Skirt is $29.99 in stores, but listed for $39.99 online.  Plus right now Gap shorts are 25% off.  Online it is just a select few, but in stores it's all of them.  Crazy.

And it's not just at Gap.  Other stores like Banana Republic and J.Crew repeatedly sell things at different prices online versus in stores.  According to a rep at J.Crew this is nothing new and there isn't really any rhyme or reason to it.  However if you know something is priced less online and you're shopping in a store, you can always have the store call and check.  If it is indeed less, they will honor that price in the store.  How cool is that.  I know this works at Banana Republic too because I've done it.

So do your research ladies and not just on name brand items like Havaianas flip flops or Marc Jacobs handbags, but on Gap jeans and Banana Republic sweaters as well.   Sometimes it pays to order online.  Sometimes it doesn't.  You have to check both.  Even at places like Gap and J.Crew.

I've noticed this as well, and am as annoyed as you. I thought it was a gimmick to make you shop both online and in-store. I still prefer to shop gap.com because I can sometimes use coupons making my purchase cheaper. I also price check my purchased items for a week or so to see if the prices have dropped some more. If they do, I simply call their 800 for a price adjustment, and they are very helpful. I think their online time frame for price adjustments is 14 days...not sure, double check beforehand.
