News & Views for August, 2006

The rumors have been swirling for months, but not it's official.  Vera Wang is bringing her designs to Kohl's department store.  I mean, Target has Isaac and JC Penney has Nicole Miller.  Why not Vera Wang for Kohl's?  I personally think it's great.  I love Vera Wang.  Kohl's, not so much.  But with this big move they may just get me to reconsider. Did you catch the Emmy Awards last night?  I must admit I thought they were quite entertaining.  Conan O'Brien did a bang up job in my opinion and the fashion was top notch with simple elegance ruling the day in colors of purple, red, and black.  Very lovely.  One of favorites - Maria Menounos from NBC.  Her Monique Lhullier dress was lovely, but her hair knocked it out of the ball park.  Fabulous.

Here's a great way to add a little zip to your work wardrobe or a little fun to your casual everyday - get yourself a girly girl, frilly dilly, oh so feminine shirt.  You can do a sheer, silk number or something a bit more casual like cotton.  Lots of option here.  The only must is getting one.  It'll make your wardrobe look more current and you'll look oh so stylish wearing it.   (2 comments posted)

Remember the stretchy little things that were in style for a few weeks back in the 80s?  Well they're back.  Built right into the shorts or pants - the suspender look is the newest trend to hit stores for fall.  It's part of the whole menswear craze.  And while I really like the plaids and the pinstripes that go along with this trend, the suspenders I will not be doing. If you love to wear dresses this is you lucky day.  Dresses are super big right now and not just for a night on the town.  They're especially popular for daytime with a ton of different styles to choose from.  There's jersey dresses, mod little shift dresses, sweater dresses, shirtdresses and more.  All begging to be worn to work or for play - but definitely during the day.

Say it loud.  Say it proud.  One of my favorite colors on this planet is once again in style.  That's right ladies.  Black is back in a big way for fall!  Pants, skirts, and dresses galore.  Everyone is featuring a ton of stuff in black.  Add a little gray and red to the mix and you're looking oh so fabulous for fall. These are the trends I just love.  The super easy, not too much thought into it, add a little something here and there kind of thing.  The whole animal print, especially leopard, craze happening right now is definitely that.  Throw on an animal print skirt with a black tneck your already own.  Maybe try a great looking leopard print dress.  Or my favorite - accessories.  Nothing too tricky and oh so fabulous for fall.      (1 comment posted)

Just in case you weren't warming up to the whole mod look for fall - the western look is always an option.  Lots of button down shirts in plaid or floral to pair with denim and some great boots.  Not that this is one of my favorites looks for fall mind you, but Banana has a darn cute denim shirt that when paired with a pencil skirt or tailored pants is definitely more country chic than cowboy.  Now that's a look I can live with.  Yee ha!

The truth is - ballet flats are still totally in.  I seriously thought they were going to be a one season deal.  Not so much.  A couple of years ago they were in.  Last year - in again.  And this fall?   They're everywhere.  It is time to bite the bullet and buy a pair?  I haven't quite decided.  But I must confess I am warming up to the whole idea.  Hhhhmmmm.... These babies are popping up everywhere.  Cute little sweater vests - plain colored ones or patterned.  Over tees or button down shirts.  Paired up with jeans or skirts.  But no matter which way you wear them, they're an easy, breezy way to look oh so fabulous this fall.      (1 comment posted)

Like J.Crew, just not their prices?  Well you may be luck.  J.Crew is opening a new store called "Madewell" that will feature casual clothing at lower prices.  The first store is slated to open in Dallas in August.  Another one in Los Angeles will follow.  As for nationwide?  That has yet to be determined.  Let's just keep our fingers crossed for online shopping.

Just in case you hadn't heard, Payless ShoeSource is kicking it up a notch.  Nothing too crazy.  The shoes will still cost about the same.  They'll just be more fashionable.  They've even hired a new designer to help.  And the stores themselves?  They're getting a makeover too.  But trust me.  It's going to take more than a few more fashionable looking shoes and a little more lighting to get me into that place.  (2 comments posted)
