Two Words - Keep Checking
Use Multiple Promo Codes When Shopping Online send to a friend Fill Out the Damn Surveys

You can't imagine how many times this has happened to me.  I check online for an item that I want and it's no longer available.  I immediately start complaining about how I shouldn't have waited so long, how I don't have enough time to get everything done.....blah....blah....blah.  I try to call and ask a customer service rep, but unfortunately once this "online only" item is gone, its' gone.

But then a few days later, out of sheer desperation, I check back anyway.  And there, much to my surprise is the exact size and color I need.  Just like that it's there.  When supposedly just a few days prior they were completely sold out, no backorder available, no nothing.

Now this is certainly not the case with all online retailers, but there are a few like J.Crew and Lands' End that are famous for this.  It drives me absolutely mad that I have to keep checking back day after day.  Not to mention what a waste of time it is if the item never shows up.  I mean, don't you think these retailers could get a little more organized?  You can't tell me that J.Crew has no idea if they will be getting more pink tshirts in size M in or not.  Auugghhh!!!

Regardless ladies, there are two very important lessons to be learned here.......

  1. Always check back - even if the rep says no way.  Trust me they don't always know.
  2. Avoid all this stress in the first place and order any "absolutely must have" items right away, if at all possible.

It's not the best situation I know, but unfortunately it's just the way it is with some retailers.  And if you happen to get lucky and the item you want magically reappears, you'll be thrilled.  So my advice......Keep Checking.

Yes, that is frustrating. I have found that with certain retailers, if you go ahead and place an order for a backordered item, chances are likely that you will receive the item much earlier than their estimated date of delivery anyways (this is especially true for Lands End and Bean). So, I think it is best to place the order in hopes of getting it for the date you need it - you can always cancel.

I have also found this to be true. I had been looking at a jacket and then the next day it wasn't there. A week later it was. I thought they were just messing with peoples minds. I am glad that it just isn't me.
Sometimes if you wait the price will go down even further, you just have to decide and take a chance on it being there still.

Something similar happened to me recently... I looked online at this J. Crew tote EVERYDAY waiting for it to go on sale and trying to decide if I should just buy it at full price or not. When I finally decided that I just had to have it, it was sold out! So, everyday since then I have checked their site hoping that it'll magically appear again, but of course it has not. I've even checked ebay for it and no one is selling it!

I would just like to clear something up here (I have a degree in retailing).... when an item is listed as sold out then it is sold out... if it appears a few days later on the website it is for the sole reason that there have been returns in that style and size........stores send internet items that get returned in-store back to the warehouse instead of selling them in the store, that's where these returns come from.
