Price Adjustment Policies
Children's Clothing Stores - for Women send to a friend Buying Jeans - Bring a Man Along
This is one of my favorite tips....very easy to do and has the potential to save you a bunch of money. Taking advantage of price adjustment policies. Many national retail chains have a policy that allows you to come in anytime between the date you purchased an item and a predetermined number of day's later (say 10 or 14) and get a price adjustment if the item has gone on sale. They simply return the item at the price you paid and sell it back to you at the current sale price. You get a credit for the difference. You don't even need to bring the merchandise back, just the receipt.

Now I realize it takes a bit of planning on your part. You have to be aware of when you purchased particular items and you must have the receipt to actually get the price adjustment. Make sure you keep all your receipts for the last 14 days in an envelope and take it with you whenever go shopping. That way if you're in the store and see that your new skirt is now on sale you can whip out your receipt and get a credit. Just like that.

Unfortunately though, like everything in retail, there are some limitations to these policies. Some stores don't allow price adjustments on sale items. So if you bought the skirt on sale initially and it gets marked down again you may not qualify for a price adjustment. Also, stores are really tightening up on the amount time you have to get a price adjustment. Some are as little as 7 days, so you really have to watch because they absolutely do not budge on these things. I guess the best thing to do is check the back of your receipt or ask the salesperson when making your purchase exactly what the store's price adjustment policy is. Regardless though, taking advantage of a store's price adjustment policy is a great way to save some money. Some stores initial markdowns are great, so if you time things right you can save a bundle. Try buying things right before a big holiday or big sale, if you can wait, and then get a PA afterwards when everything has been marked down. This works great at stores like Gap, Talbot's, and Banana Republic. If you are willing to be a bit organized about things you can really save a ton. Trust me; I've been doing it for years.

Yes, I have been doing this for years too! Sometimes it gets to be too much taking back and forth, but it's worth the $$$$ you save and you get first picks on sizes and colors! You might want to contact the retail store before you go in for your adjustment on the price. Some retailers do want you to bring the merchandise in along with the receipt. Just a note to save you some time!!! Oh, I even write on the receipt the name of the items purchased so as to save time when I go to get the receipts to take the item back to the store. Dillard's, Belk, ask for the item and receipt - I have found that stores like Gymboree, Gap, Old Navy, do not. LWJ

Hollister and Abercrombie also require you to bring in the items WITH the tags still on them? I could have gotten over $100 back one day and I was so excited as I waited in line, feeling so smart..... then that skinny little girl behind the counter said I couldn't have my price adjustment without the clothes and the tags. So, hang on to the tags!!!!
